At McLean Hospital, the staff, faculty, students, volunteers and supporters are dedicated to improving the lives of people and families affected by psychiatric illness. As the largest psychiatric affiliate of Harvard Medical School, McLean has been meeting the needs of individuals and families with psychiatric illness since their founding in 1811. McLean Hospital is a 177-bed psychiatric facility with 6,074 admissions in the most recent year reported. McLean Hospital provides an array of clinical services designed to meet the needs of each of their patients at every stage of treatment. Services are offered at a number of locations, including at the hospital’s main campus in Belmont. The hospital offers a full continuum of care including acute and longer-term residential, partial hospital, inpatient and outpatient services. In addition, they operate three specialized therapeutic schools. Services at McLean are designed to encourage the least restrictive level of care that is clinically appropriate.
